We are dedicated to helping you make the transition from university to the start of your career in AI and technology as seamless as possible. 

Through Amii's six-month mentorship program, you will gain foundational knowledge about AI, meet peers and mentors from a diverse set of backgrounds, and learn how to best apply your skills for a career in AI and technology.

You'll visit nine organizations across different industries to learn more about their recruiting processes, discover applications of AI in their businesses, and make invaluable connections to help jumpstart your career upon graduation.

Bernie Kollman and Yasmin Jivraj

Co-Chairs

Ms. Kollman is currently a Forum Chair of MacKay CEO Forums, leading a peer mentoring group of CEOs and executives to assist with their biggest challenges and to drive stronger business results. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Edmonton Global as well as Compute Canada, and previously was Board Chair of Travel Alberta and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce.  Bernie retired from IBM Canada Ltd. serving as Vice President of IBM’s Public Sector business in Alberta for ten years, contributing to that organization for over 30 years. She has been described by clients and colleagues as an independent thinker with high integrity who is also passionate, principled, customer driven, goal oriented and innovative.

Yasmin is an experienced technology and business leader with over 30 years of expertise in growing businesses in the Information and Communications
Technology sector. She currently serves on the board of directors for Alberta
Blue Cross, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Dexcent Engineering and the United Way for the Alberta region and previously on the board of CBC/Radio Canada. For over 15 years, Yasmin was the president and co-owner of Acrodex, one of the leading providers of strategic information technology solutions for Canadian business. Yasmin lead the company to annual revenues of over $250 Million and over 600 information technology professionals located all across Canada with headquartered in Edmonton. Late in 2015, Yasmin participated with the successful sale of Acrodex to PCM, a major US based public technology solutions provider headquartered in California.

Bernie and Yasmin realize the value of diversity in information technology, and spent over 10 years working with Grade 9 students to make them aware of the wide range of careers available in IT plus the benefits of studying higher levels of math and science.  They now focus their volunteer energy and leadership on creating the same awareness and inclusion for university students regarding the opportunities in artificial intelligence.

How much does it cost?

It is absolutely free to apply and participate in the AlbertaWomen.AI cohort! 

2.

What is the time commitment?

We require a commitment of four hours 1-2 times per month from January 2020 to June 2020. Each four-hour session will provide you with a presentation at Amii  (Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute) where you will gain foundational knowledge about AI and ML, followed by a site visit to one of our Industry Partner organizations

Are only women able to apply?

We encourage you to apply if you identify as female, femme, gender-queer or non-binary.

4.

Do I need to have a background in AI?

You do not need to have previous experience working with AI. However, we require that you have an interest in AI and Technology and are able to speak to that in your application.

5.

What if I do not live in Alberta?

We appreciate your interest! However, our program is only open to students living and studying in Alberta, Canada and able to travel to Edmonton to participate in each of the nine sessions.
